ABOUT
Peter Kraemer studied Visual Communication at the Folkwangschule and University Essen under Prof. Paul Schüllner. Since he graduated in 1982 he has been working as a freelance illustrator and painter. He first started by creating pictures using the airbrush method and finally switched to the use of digital graphics in 1995. In recent years 3D programs have become an increasingly important part of his working techniques. Subjects of his work are objects used in everyday life and technical details. In his current image series Quantities, he works with duplications. The objects in his images are multiplied hundredfold and reorganized into new structures, in some cases by using physical simulations. Days and weeks of calculations are frequently necessary for the complex and highly detailed 3D models to become images. Peter Kraemer lives and works in Düsseldorf.
The "Heroes" of my pictures are those objects that surround us in our everyday lives. I am interested by the mixture of triviality and symbolism often inherent in these things. An important part of my work consists of getting a clear understanding of the nature of these objects and then constructing them anew. I just find it fun to absorb myself in the hidden geometry that lies beneath the surface of things. By doing this I try to reduce the objekts to their essence. They should become the quintessential core of their real selves. My actual goal is always to find clear forms, and with the help of light and shadow, create an impression of dimensionality.
The pictures of the Quantities Series allow me to pursue my fascination with structures, patterns, and pattern formation. It is the boundary between order and chaos that interests me. The simulation of physical forces (although I by no means slavishly adhere to the laws of nature) has enriched my work process with a playful aspect.
